What do you do at Western Solar? What does your average day look like?
I work in System Design and Sales so I take customers through from their initial interest in solar to signing off on a design that meets their needs and best utilizes their solar resource. On a typical day my time is split between the office and the field. I meet with customers to explain how solar works and collect all the measurements and information I need to design their system. Then back at the office I create a 3D model of their property to lay out the solar panels, and run generation and financial analysis to present the customer with accurate information they can use to understand their investment.
What’s your favorite part about working here?
I love the varied nature of the work and it’s fantastic to meet so many enthusiastic homeowners who are investing in this technology. My favorite part of working at Western Solar though is the team. Aside from the fact we all seem to get along very well, there is a great collaborative atmosphere to the company that underpins all of our work. I think its the driving force behind the quality of the work we do.
What’s your biggest achievement to date (either personal or professional)?
A few months ago we went go-karting as a company and I came first, definitively proving that English drivers are better than American drivers. It was a big moment for British motor sport so I think I’d have to go with that…
How do you typically spend your time outside of work?
Outside of solar my education and passion has been in music so I like to set aside some time for that. Otherwise my wife and I are fairly new to Bellingham so we are still exploring the scenery, food and drink with our trusty dog Bandit!
And finally, while this may be cliche — what’s your favorite quote?
“It is well known that a vital ingredient of success is not knowing that what you’re attempting can’t be done.” Terry Pratchett
