Tesla Issues Recall on Select Powerwall 2 Batteries

In this article

Tesla has announced a recall for a limited group of Powerwall 2 units due to a third party battery cell defect. This issue does not affect Powerwall 3 and Tesla is replacing all affected Powerwall 2 units at no cost to customers. Tesla is conducting this recall in cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Nearly all affected units in the United States have already been remotely discharged by Tesla, which renders them safe. Any remaining units are being discharged by Tesla technicians. Affected customers will receive a notification through the Tesla app.

As your installer, Western Solar fully supports Tesla’s approach and we are working directly with their team to make this process as smooth as possible.

If you receive a message in your Tesla app stating that your Powerwall 2 will be replaced, please let us know. This helps our service department prepare for your replacement and create a plan that minimizes downtime and provides the best possible experience.
