Solar for Nonprofits

The Bottom Line — How Solar Can Impact Nonprofits

Nonprofits serve some of the most vulnerable communities and important causes in our society. Every dollar they can save on an electricity bill is a dollar that can instead go to their front line services where it’s needed the most. However, nonprofits do not have the benefit of the generous federal tax credits that help home and business owners go solar, and they are often working with tight budgets that make the upfront investment necessary for solar untenable. That’s where the Western Solar Initiative comes in.

The Western Solar Initiative

Installing donated system for the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association

Western Solar is committed to finding funding mechanisms for nonprofits,  helping them to raise the capital needed to go solar. We identify and apply for grants, price our services below market rates and organize donation campaigns to bring the project together. In recent years we have helped source either funding or donations for:

  • Kulshan Community Land Trust
  • Lydia Place
  • Lummi Nation Housing Authority
  • Anacortes Housing Authority
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Opportunity Council
  • Bellingham Food Bank
  • Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association
  • Interfaith Coalition
  • Cloud Mountain Farm
  • Institute for WA Future

If you run a nonprofit and would like our help to go solar and repurpose your electricity bill for essential services, please reach out and we will do everything in our power to make solar accessible to you.
